OpenAI has launched GPT-6.1 Sol, saying its performance is close to GPT-6 Astra while pricing its standard API access at about one-fifth of Astra’s. Sol is available through ChatGPT Work, Codex and the API, but not yet in regular Chat conversations, and has an approximately 1.05 million-token context window. OpenAI also said GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna API prices would each fall by about 50% this week. Tibo said improved model efficiency means users may complete similar workloads with fewer credits and said OpenAI would not restore the previous five-hour limit, although no real-world comparison between old and new plans is available. Users disagree over whether GPT-6 Astra subscription allowances will be halved, with some arguing that lower Sol and Luna prices could offset the practical impact. The debate follows comparisons after Anthropic released Claude Sonnet 5.5, while OpenAI continues developing its GPT-6 Astra-based dots agents, each with a dedicated cloud computer for continuous task handling.
