Sweden’s retail sales rose 6.9% year-on-year in August 2026, accelerating from an upwardly revised 6.5% increase in July. Growth strengthened in consumables excluding Systembolaget, other non-specialized stores, petrol stations, bookshops, sports shops, and specialized stores except state liquor stores. Petrol station sales recorded the sharpest acceleration, rising 18.8% compared with 6.1% in July. Growth moderated in non-specialized stores and durable goods. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade increased 0.8% in August, rebounding from an upwardly revised 0.1% decline in July.
