SK Innovation E&S has begun receiving LNG from Australia’s Barossa gas field through the Darwin LNG plant, securing 1.3 million tons annually for 20 years. The company invested $1.6 billion in the $4.3 billion project alongside Santos and JERA, after expanding estimated reserves and reusing facilities from the depleted Bayu-Undan field. Barossa’s output represents about 3% of South Korea’s annual LNG imports and can reach the country in a little over 10 days without passing through the Middle East. The project forms part of SK Innovation E&S’s vertically integrated LNG business, spanning gas production, vessels, terminals and power plants.
