SP Samhwa, formerly Samhwa Paint Industrial, said on September 30 that it secured a patent for a heat-dissipating coating composition designed for glass-steel building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) modules. The technology targets heat buildup on the back of steel plates, which can reduce solar-generation efficiency as module temperatures rise. BIPV modules integrate building exterior materials with solar-generation functions and are installed directly on walls, making them more susceptible to heat accumulation than ground-mounted systems. The company developed the patent in response to the expanding BIPV market, supported by the government’s carbon neutrality policy and broader mandatory zero-energy building (ZEB) requirements. The coating disperses heat through thermal conduction, thermal radiation and convection. SP Samhwa expects commercialization to reduce temperature-related efficiency losses in G2S modules and slow degradation, potentially extending product lifespans. Laboratory-level performance verification has been completed, and field testing is planned to determine the commercialization schedule and support expansion into other BIPV product lines.
