Elon Musk said artificial intelligence could usher in an age of abundance with universal high income and healthcare superior to what anyone currently receives, while jobs change rather than disappear entirely. Speaking after a White House meeting of technology leaders on Tuesday, the Tesla and SpaceXAI CEO said robots and superintelligence could make advanced medical care broadly available. Musk also said AI has not yet produced a surge in unemployment, pointing instead to tremendous demand for workers. He joined Jensen Huang, Mark Zuckerberg, Sundar Pichai, Greg Brockman and Dario Amodei in signing a Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities, which includes robust internal controls, independent evaluation and oversight by an independent board committee. Musk has previously warned that catastrophic AI and robot risks are not zero, described the transition as bumpy and said federal payments supporting universal high income would be the best response to AI-driven unemployment. He has also envisioned near-unlimited goods and services, while warning that people could lose their sense of purpose if work becomes less meaningful and that retirement savings could eventually become irrelevant.
