Novo Nordisk presented clinical and real-world data on obesity treatments at the 2026 European Association for the Study of Diabetes Annual Meeting in Milan. A 52-week functional MRI study found that investigational CagriSema altered brain responses to high-calorie food cues and was associated with reduced food noise, hunger and appetite, alongside a 22.4% placebo-adjusted reduction in body weight. Other analyses linked CagriSema to lower fat around the liver, pancreas and abdomen in early type 2 diabetes and healthy bone maintenance during weight loss. Novo also reported OCTANE real-world data on 194 overweight and obese adults who switched from injectable semaglutide or tirzepatide to once-daily oral Wegovy. Participants lost an additional average 4.1% of body weight, or about 4 kilograms, over three months, while the proportion with a BMI of at least 30 declined from 87.1% to 65.5%. Novo said more than half of 37,000 surveyed obesity patients preferred oral medicines and that 80% of U.S. oral Wegovy users were new to GLP-1 obesity treatment. The findings support Novo’s oral strategy as it competes with Eli Lilly, although OCTANE was a real-world study rather than a randomized controlled trial.
