AI adoption is widespread, but organizations are struggling to convert tools and pilots into significant business results, according to studies from Bain, Dentsu Creative and BearingPoint. Bain found that 95% of marketing organizations had adopted AI tools, yet only 6% reported a significant current performance impact. Dentsu found that 70% of senior marketing decision-makers had not seen major cost efficiencies. In BearingPoint's broader study, published October 1, 2026, close to 75% of respondents reported positive financial results, but only 13% were on track with their AI initiatives and fewer than one-third had moved beyond pilots. The financial gains were weighted toward efficiency: 24% reported AI-driven cost savings of at least 10%, compared with 4% reporting revenue growth of 10% or more. Regulatory hurdles and legacy-system integration were the leading barriers. The findings suggest that meaningful returns depend on workflow redesign, team restructuring, operational integration and customer-focused uses of first-party data rather than software purchases alone.
