Chile’s IMACEC economic activity index fell 1.0% year-on-year in August 2026, following a revised 1.5% decline in July and marking two consecutive months of contraction. Goods production dropped 4.9%, led by a 17.4% plunge in mining, particularly copper, amid lower ore grades, maintenance work and adverse weather. Other goods increased 4.9% on higher electricity generation, while manufacturing edged up 0.3% as chemical and fishery output offset weaker pulp and paper production. Trade rose 2.2%, services gained 0.8% and non-mining IMACEC increased 1.4%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, activity fell 0.7%, after a downwardly revised 1.8% drop in July.
