China has extended two investigations into US trade barriers until December 27, citing the complexity of cases examining American measures that disrupted global industrial and supply chains and obstructed trade in green products. The probes, launched on March 27, were due to end on September 27. The extension came less than a week after US President Donald Trump hosted Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Washington, where they agreed to extend their trade truce through January 10 and reduce tariffs on US$30 billion of goods on each side. China opened the investigations in response to US Section 301 probes into Chinese overproduction and goods made with forced labor, which Beijing called political manipulation. The extension delays potential retaliatory measures while the cases remain under review.
