MSCI launched 14 AI Value Chain Indexes in late August 2026, dividing artificial intelligence exposure into 10 component indexes, three layer-specific indexes and one overarching index. The framework covers Physical AI Infrastructure, Digital AI Infrastructure and AI Applications, allowing investors to allocate across the supply chain rather than make a single broad AI bet. Jana Haines, MSCI’s head of index, said investors increasingly want exposure segmented by industry, company size, market capitalization and country. Bain estimates that the industries supporting current AI infrastructure will need about $6 trillion in annual revenue by 2031, while existing and known AI applications may generate only about $1.2 trillion, creating room for additional financial tools and hedging strategies. MSCI also introduced as many as 100 futures and options contracts linked to the indexes through a Singapore Exchange partnership announced in July 2026. The products are designed to support more targeted exposure and risk management as heavy AI infrastructure spending and elevated valuations concern some investors.
