Chainlink selected as official oracle for Open Standard's OUSD

  • Stripe made Open Standard's OUSD available across its payments platform.
  • Businesses can send OUSD to crypto wallets in more than 100 countries.
  • Chainlink was selected as the official price oracle for OUSD.

Open Standard's OUSD stablecoin went live for businesses and developers on Sept. 30 across Base, Ethereum, Solana and Tempo, backed by more than $1 billion in committed launch liquidity from Coinbase, Mastercard, Shopify, Stripe and Visa. Stripe has made OUSD available across its payments platform for uses including cross-border payroll and remittances, with businesses able to hold balances in Stripe Treasury, use stablecoin cards and send funds to crypto wallets in more than 100 countries. Chainlink was selected as OUSD's official price oracle, supplying external market data that smart contracts and blockchain-based financial systems can use for asset valuation and transactions. The infrastructure is intended to support lending, decentralized exchange and derivatives applications, including collateral valuation, liquidations, settlement, trading, margin products, automated market-maker pools and yield vaults where protocols integrate the feeds. OUSD's model removes mint and burn fees for dollar conversions and instead applies a small, predictable transaction fee. Open Standard says partners that adopt and transact with OUSD can earn rewards, while Stripe CEO Patrick Collison has said most reserve earnings are distributed directly to partners rather than retained by the issuer. Stripe's integrations include Bridge orchestration, Privy embedded wallets and stablecoin cards through Stripe Issuing. Aave Labs has proposed adding OUSD as a supply and borrow asset on Aave V3 on Ethereum and the Aave V4 Core Hub, initially without collateral eligibility. Institutional attention on LINK has also increased: Grayscale bought 629,100 LINK during September, including 159,480 tokens worth $2.36 million through its Chainlink ETF, while Bitwise filed an SEC prospectus proposing to stake 20% of its Chainlink ETF holdings.
