BlackBerry shares climbed 5% to $9.14 on Wednesday as momentum in its QNX automotive software business supported investor sentiment. QNX revenue reached a record $80.3 million in the latest quarter, up 27% year over year, prompting BlackBerry to raise its fiscal 2027 QNX outlook to $315 million to $325 million. The company also secured its first Alloy Kore design win with Coretura, the commercial-vehicle software joint venture between Volvo Group and Daimler Truck. The award is expected to generate more than $100 million in future royalties and is QNX’s largest design win to date. Alloy Kore combines QNX foundational software with Vector middleware in a pre-integrated, safety-certified platform for software-defined vehicles, with an average selling price per instance roughly three times higher than the customer’s current QNX operating-system deployment. Most related royalty revenue will be recognized after production begins. Palo Alto Networks rose 4% to $403.01, CrowdStrike gained 2% to $267.60, the First Trust NASDAQ Cybersecurity ETF advanced 2% to $103.91, and the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust rose 0.58% to $768.60. BlackBerry’s expansion into robotics, industrial automation and physical AI adds to QNX’s automotive base, while Secure Communications remains pressured by delayed government deals. Analysts and investors will be watching additional design wins, execution against the raised QNX outlook and whether Secure Communications contracts materialize.
