Duke Energy and the Duke Energy Foundation awarded a combined $326,500 to 27 organizations working to strengthen Florida's workforce, support business growth and advance economic development. The recipients include nonprofits and government entities that will use the grants to promote careers in emerging industries, attract high-potential companies and make it easier to do business in the state. Projects include updating Wakulla County's 2022 Economic Development Strategic Plan, promoting Orlando's capability-led development model and measuring the economic impact of entrepreneurship and business retention, expansion and attraction efforts in Pasco County. Duke Energy Florida state president Melissa Seixas said the investments are intended to help Florida's economy keep pace with population growth and remain competitive nationally and globally. The Duke Energy Foundation provides nearly $30 million annually in philanthropic support and is funded by Duke Energy shareholders.
