A possible expansion of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s 2nm capacity could benefit semiconductor-equipment companies before TSMC’s major customers see additional chip output. Wells Fargo analyst Joe Quatrochi described the potential expansion as an incremental opportunity for Applied Materials, Lam Research, KLA and ASML Holding. TSMC’s 2nm chips accounted for 3% of wafer revenue in the second quarter, while CFO Wendell Huang said a steep ramp would support third-quarter business. The company’s board approved about $29.4 billion in capital spending on August 11, 2026, primarily for advanced-capacity installation and upgrades. Quatrochi identified Texas’s Silicon Prairie as a logical location for a second campus, alongside existing operations from Texas Instruments, Samsung Electronics, Coherent and Terafab. TSMC’s Arizona investment grew from about $40 billion in December 2022 to $265 billion by July 2026, while its 2026 capital-spending plan reached as much as $64 billion. TSMC is scheduled to report third-quarter results on October 15, 2026, when management may provide more detail on its U.S. plans. The company’s market value has risen from about $379 billion at the end of 2022 to roughly $2 trillion, and Stock Analysis lists a Strong Buy consensus among 21 analysts with an average price target of $552.26.
