Sycamore is in advanced talks to sell Boots to the Canadian branch of the Weston family for roughly £7 billion, reports said. The Wall Street Journal said an agreement could be reached within the next week. Sycamore began seeking a buyer earlier this year after separating Boots from its U.S. operations last August, and also considered a London initial public offering. Sigma Healthcare, an Australian pharmacy business, held discussions before withdrawing from the process during the summer. The proposed buyer owns grocery chain Loblaws through Wittington Investments and would return the family to U.K. retail after its 2022 sale of Selfridges for £4 billion.
