Amazon has signed a 20-year nuclear power agreement with Constellation Energy that will support more than $3 billion in infrastructure investment at Maryland’s Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center. The plan includes upgrades to the 1,790-megawatt facility and about 190 megawatts of new emissions-free capacity expected between 2030 and 2032. Amazon will receive 690 megawatts under the agreement, including the expanded capacity, and has also entered a retail supply deal covering its operations in the 13-state PJM market. The long-term commitment gives Constellation revenue certainty to pursue a 20-year relicensing of the plant and support future clean-energy development, including advanced nuclear technologies. The deal follows Amazon’s earlier decision to abandon plans for a nearby data-center campus after community opposition and to explore expanded generation at the site. Calvert Cliffs produces about 80% of Maryland’s clean energy, enough electricity for more than 1.3 million homes, and employs over 800 people.
