John Hancock Financial Opportunities Fund (NYSE: BTO), a closed-end fund managed by John Hancock Investment Management LLC and subadvised by Manulife Investment Management (US) LLC, announced the estimated sources of its $0.6500-per-share quarterly distribution paid September 30, 2026, to shareholders of record as of September 11. The payment was declared September 1 under the Fund's managed distribution plan and was disclosed as required by an exemptive order from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. For the September 2026 distribution, the Fund estimated that 13% came from net investment income, 15% from net realized short-term capital gains, 52% from net realized long-term capital gains and 20% from return of capital or another capital source. Fiscal year-to-date distributions through September 30 totaled $1.9495 per share, with 18% attributed to net investment income, 8% to short-term gains, 74% to long-term gains and 0% to return of capital or another capital source. The Fund said the estimates are not for tax reporting and may change based on investment results and tax regulations; shareholders will receive Form 1099-DIV for federal tax reporting. It also cautioned that the distribution should not be used to assess investment performance and that return of capital should not be confused with yield or income.
