Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp said the company’s first-ever outside funding round is oversubscribed but has not yet closed. The company, founded and funded solely by Jeff Bezos since 2000, began the raise at a $130 billion pre-money valuation, while The Wall Street Journal reported that it had raised $10 billion at a $140 billion valuation. Coatue Management committed approximately $4 billion to lead the round, though Limp did not confirm the raise’s size or Bezos’ contribution. Blue Origin is seeking capital as it expands satellite ventures, competes for engineering talent and responds to investor interest in commercial space, which has been boosted by SpaceX’s initial public offering in June. Limp said New Glenn is expected to fly again before year-end after a failed mission and a May ground-test explosion damaged the company’s Cape Canaveral launch pad.
