Meta Platforms is distributing its Muse personal AI agent free to a broad user base, intensifying competition with Alphabet's subscription-based Spark and creating potential pressure on Apple's App Store economics and Google Search. Needham analyst Laura Martin estimated Apple could lose as much as $10 billion in revenue and $7.5 billion in EBITDA if 20% of App Store revenue shifted to Meta's zero-fee Muse Connectors, based on App Store revenue representing 40% of Apple's $123 billion in fiscal 2026 services revenue. JPMorgan separately warned that agents handling shopping and travel could bypass Google Search, exposing $63.27 billion of Q2 search and other revenue. Muse downloads were estimated at 2.5 million to 3.4 million in its first two weeks and more than 5 million after three weeks, while daily use rose 60% after Meta rebuilt the assistant around Muse models. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Meta plans to monetize free access through small transaction fees. Apple shares slipped roughly 2% to 2.5% around Sept. 29-30, 2026, after Bank of America warned Muse could put as much as $10 billion of Apple's subscription revenue at risk, although it retained a Buy rating and $370 price target. Alphabet shares fell 1.43% on Oct. 1 after Gemini 4 Argon launched, while investors await Spark's expected public release and evidence of whether agents reduce search and app-based transactions.
