A consortium led by South Korean plant builder Doosan Enerbility Co. has secured an 840 billion-won (US$618 million) engineering, procurement and construction contract for Vietnam's O Mon 3 gas-fired combined-cycle power plant. The facility, which combines gas and steam turbines to generate electricity, will be built for Petrovietnam (PVN) at a site about 180 kilometers southwest of Ho Chi Minh City and is scheduled for completion by 2030. The consortium includes Vietnam's PetroVietnam Technical Service Corp. (PTSC), while PVN is PTSC's parent company. The contract follows a 900 billion-won deal awarded in June last year for another gas-fired combined-cycle plant at the same site, known as O Mon 4, with completion planned by 2028. Doosan Enerbility said PVN also plans gas-fired plants in central and northern Vietnam, and the company has secured five such deals worth a combined 3.87 trillion won this year.
