The Bank of Korea has created a separate Digital Currency Advisory Committee to gather views from outside experts and the market on central bank digital currencies, deposit tokens and related policies. The committee held its first meeting on Sept. 29, about five months after the previous Money & Banking Future Forum ended in April when former Governor Rhee Chang-yong’s term expired. Unlike the former forum, which covered broader digital innovation including artificial intelligence, the new panel will focus exclusively on digital-currency policies and projects. Its creation comes as Project Hangang, Project Agora’s cross-border payments experiment and government bond tokenization progress.
