Tencent reportedly agreed to a five-year Oracle lease worth about $7 billion for access to roughly 100,000 advanced AI chips in multiple Southeast Asian data centers, with around 30% of the contract value due upfront. Neither company has confirmed the Financial Times report, which Reuters said it could not independently verify. By renting overseas computing capacity rather than importing restricted hardware, Tencent could support large language models, agentic tools and generative applications while the chips remain outside China. The arrangement would also add a major customer to Oracle's AI cloud business, whose revenue recently rose 121% year over year as it delivered more than 300,000 GPUs and added 850MW of data-center capacity. Oracle's infrastructure expansion has also contributed to negative free cash flow, rising debt and caution in credit markets over some Oracle-linked data-center financing.
