MetaMask is proactively exiting about 17,000 Ethereum validators holding roughly 523,000 ETH after identifying a security incident affecting part of its infrastructure. The validators are operated by its staking business, formerly known as Consensys Staking, within the Lido protocol. MetaMask said on September 30 that it was addressing and remediating the issue with external partners and security advisors, then said on October 1 that there was no indication its wallets or customer funds had been affected. The staking operation is non-custodial and does not control clients’ withdrawal keys. Lido expects the final validators to be exited, though not fully withdrawn, by the end of October 7, with the ETH returning gradually over roughly 45 days through the exit, withdrawal and re-entry process. No action is required from stETH holders. Separately, Renzo Finance said Renzo Basis lets users verify relevant exposure data on-chain and assess independently whether they were affected. Renzo also said ezETH moved to 100% native ETH backing on April 26, 2026, with 214.75 stETH, or 0.5%, remaining in the valid withdrawal-claim queue.
