NextEra Energy, Related Companies and Lewis Energy Group are developing Project Star, a $22 billion energy infrastructure campus in Encinal, Texas, selected by the U.S. Department of Commerce and South Korea. The project targets 6.47 gigawatts of locally supplied natural-gas generation to support a privately funded 5 GW data center campus that Related Digital plans to build next door. Excess power will be sent to the ERCOT grid, supporting reliability as Texas electricity demand grows. Construction could create about 8,400 peak jobs in South Texas, with roughly 170 permanent positions at the power campus and hundreds more at the data center. Initial generating resources could come online as early as 2029, pending permits and regulatory approvals. The United States and South Korea will jointly own the energy campus under a bilateral investment framework covering energy, artificial intelligence and manufacturing. NextEra Energy, Inc. shares closed at $75.74, down 0.20%, before rising 0.18% to $75.87 in premarket trading.
