Kyobo Life Insurance has formally begun commercialization efforts for stablecoins and real-world assets with Japan’s SBI Holdings, Circle and South Korean digital-asset custodian BDACS. The companies met at the “Bridging Finance Onchain” event in Seoul on Oct. 1 to discuss proof-of-concept work for blockchain-based financial services and the use of stablecoins and asset tokenization in insurance and asset management. Kyobo is also reviewing an investment and operating framework for using digital assets in financial operations, and plans to expand cooperation with domestic and overseas financial and digital-asset companies. SBI introduced its yen-denominated JPYSC stablecoin and Strium blockchain, Circle presented its institutional stablecoin payment and foreign-exchange infrastructure Circle StableFX, and BDACS demonstrated exchange and payment processes using KRW1 and USDC. Participants said regulatory standards, internal controls, consumer and investor protection, and payment and settlement infrastructure must develop together for on-chain finance to enter mainstream financial services. Earlier coverage of the event examined blockchain applications in repurchase agreements and tokenized assets, including potential liquidity savings and atomic settlement, while highlighting interoperability, institutional service providers and rules comparable with traditional finance.
