American Battery Technology Company received approval from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), a U.S. trade-control agency, to export up to $100 million of recycled black mass under a Defense Priorities and Allocation System license. Black mass, a battery-recycling material containing lithium, nickel, cobalt, manganese and graphite, is recovered from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries and manufacturing scrap. The approval provides commercial access to international supply chains while the company scales its existing facility and a second recycling plant supported by $150 million in competitive grants from the U.S. Department of Energy. Chief Executive Officer Ryan Melsert said the company is advancing commercialization and expanding its role in the critical minerals value chain. ABAT shares rose 17.19% to $2.59 in Thursday premarket trading, according to Benzinga Pro data.
