Fiserv has put its digital-asset platform into production with Bank of North Dakota’s Roughrider Coin as its first live use case, connecting more than 90 North Dakota banks and credit unions through Commercial Center. The institution-only, one-to-one dollar-backed asset operates on Solana’s public blockchain but is restricted to participating financial institutions, and members of the public cannot buy, hold or invest in it. VersaBank USA issues the token and handles minting, burning, custody and reserve management; Fireblocks provides wallets and tokenization infrastructure; Bank of North Dakota provides governance oversight; and Fiserv connects the product to bank systems and reconciliation processes. The launch embeds blockchain settlement within established banking workflows rather than requiring institutions to adopt separate crypto applications. Fiserv and Bank of North Dakota have not disclosed token supply, transaction volumes, active institutions, settlement values, realized cost savings or measured settlement performance.
