New Zealand's construction industry is forecast to expand 3.4% in real terms in 2026, supported by rising building consent values, lower interest rates and continued investment across transport, energy, residential and industrial projects. Statistics New Zealand data shows the value of building consents increased 10.3% year on year in February 2026, after gains of 6.6% in January and 18% in December 2025; growth across the first two months of 2026 reached 8.6%, compared with 3% in 2025. The market is projected to grow at an average annual rate of 4.7% from 2027 to 2030, with transport, industrial, renewable energy, water and utilities investment providing support. The NZD11 billion National Land Transport Program allocation for road infrastructure, Auckland Airport's NZD6.6 billion terminal integration project and Contact Energy's planned NZD525 million equity raise for renewable projects are among the developments highlighted. Government efforts to accelerate project approvals could also expand mining and related infrastructure, with a target of NZD3 billion in mineral export revenue by 2035.
