The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is looking to establish an office in Venezuela, despite the government not requesting an IMF programme or other funding. IMF spokesperson Julie Kozack said IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva met Venezuela’s interim President Delcy Rodríguez on the sidelines of the recent United Nations General Assembly. The proposed office would provide a local presence for the fund, but does not indicate that a financing arrangement has been requested or agreed.
