All combined WTA 1000 tournaments will award women the same prize money as men from 2027, the Women's Tennis Association said on Thursday. The change brings the Canadian Open, Cincinnati Open and Italian Open into line with combined 1000-level events at Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid and China. Equal prize money is also offered at the United Cup and the four Grand Slams. The Italian Tennis Federation announced in 2023 that it planned to introduce equal prize money in Rome within three years, but the target was not achieved by 2025. WTA Chair Valerie Camillo called the move a major milestone and said it reflected the organization’s commitment to competitive and financial equality. The 2027 WTA calendar will include 55 tournaments across 26 countries and territories, while the season-ending WTA Finals will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina, for at least three years from 2027.
