Kalshi has launched trading in perpetual Dogecoin futures in the United States, giving retail investors access to contracts within a CFTC (U.S. derivatives regulator)-regulated jurisdiction. The listing offers an onshore alternative to fixed-term futures on Coinbase and Robinhood or offshore platforms. Each contract represents 10 DOGE, with leverage capped at 3.8x for long positions and 2.8x for short positions. Prices track CF Benchmarks' DOGEUSD_RTI spot index, settlements operate around the clock and funding rates are recalculated every eight hours. Initial trading recorded about $952,100 in daily volume and $553,300 in open interest, with bears holding a 54% to 46% edge over bulls. The contracts fall under Section 1256 of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, applying the 60/40 tax rule to profits regardless of holding time. Kalshi also pays 3.25% annual interest on uninvested dollar margin balances starting at $250 and supports standard protective orders, although accounts are not insured by the FDIC or SIPC. The launch extends Kalshi's move into crypto after its summer entry into perpetual futures generated more than $5.5 billion in cumulative trading volume. Beginning October 13, 2026, Kalshi closed its VIP volume-based rewards program amid regulatory pressure over large transactions, but plans further expansion, including applications for futures tied to metals and the US500 stock index.
