DogeOS, a project founded by the team behind the MyDoge wallet, opened its public testnet on September 30, giving developers an EVM-compatible environment for applications tied to Dogecoin. The network, which previously had limited access, is a ZK-rollup that uses DOGE for gas and has received an endorsement from the Dogecoin Foundation. Initial builders include DeFi projects spanning liquidity, lending, perpetuals, options, stablecoins, prediction markets and token launchpads, alongside gaming and crowdfunding applications. Dogecoin's base layer does not support smart contracts, and DogeOS is designed as an additional layer rather than a change to its core ledger. For Dogecoin to verify the rollup's zero-knowledge proofs itself, however, the network would need an upgrade. A July 2025 draft proposal for an OP_CHECKZKP soft fork remains under community discussion, including concerns about trusted setups, quantum resistance and whether demand warrants added complexity. DogeOS raised $6.9 million in May 2025, but has not announced a mainnet date. DOGE traded near $0.0960, below $0.10, while network hashrate fell to about 32% of its February 2026 peak.
