Comcast's NBCUniversal is proposing job cuts in its Global Streaming Technology organization, with most reductions expected at Sky, its European media arm, and a smaller number affecting U.S.-based staff. Engineering and quality-assurance employees were informed on Wednesday, while consultations required under UK labor law will determine the final headcount at Sky. The changes come as Comcast prepares to spin off NBCUniversal and Sky into an independent publicly traded company in a tax-free transaction expected to close in roughly a year, while retaining up to 19.9% of the new entity. Comcast shares closed 0.28% lower at $21.70 on Thursday before rising 0.44% in premarket trading.
