The KOSDAQ, South Korea's secondary stock-market index, reclaimed 900 during trading on Oct. 2 for the first time since July 2, extending a sharper recent rebound than the KOSPI. The index was up 0.92% at 902.49 as of 10:20 a.m., after opening at 893.22, while an earlier reading put its intraday high at 902.61 at 9:07 a.m. Gains were led by AI-related semiconductor materials, parts and equipment makers, optical communications stocks and power infrastructure companies. Foreign and institutional investors were net buyers on the KOSDAQ, while CME FedWatch data showed the probability of a U.S. rate increase in October falling to about 24% from 70% a week earlier. The index rose about 10% from 812.41 on Sept. 15 to 894.29 on Oct. 1, compared with a roughly 5% gain for the KOSPI. Continued AI infrastructure spending could support the favored sectors, although volatility may increase ahead of U.S. employment data and the holiday period.
