The New Leap Fund has canceled 1.5968 trillion Korean won in long-overdue debts for 183,000 socially vulnerable people in its fourth debt burn. The debts were among 11.7 trillion won owed by 957,000 people acquired through the fund's first to sixth purchases. Eligible obligations include debts exempt from review, unenforceable debts, debts whose statutes of limitations have expired, and debts finalized through bankruptcy or discharge. Cumulative cancellations across the first four rounds have reached 3.8551 trillion won for 452,000 people, representing 32.8% of acquired long-overdue debt and 47.2% of borrowers. Notifications will begin by text message in mid-month. Beneficiaries can seek the lifting of legal measures such as account seizures, receive cost support, and qualify for basic communication fee support for up to two years. The fund plans quarterly cancellations and will begin full-scale repayment-ability assessments after the revised Credit Information Act takes effect on August 13, with further cancellations planned in the fourth quarter for borrowers deemed unable to repay.
