RealFi launched USDrf and its yield-bearing counterpart, sUSDrf, on Cardano on Oct. 1, advancing Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson's effort to connect blockchain finance with credit in emerging markets. Eligible retail users can acquire USDrf and stake it for sUSDrf, whose variable returns come from an underlying portfolio that may include direct loans, private-credit funds, public credit, investment-grade collateralized loan obligation ETFs, Treasuries and money-market instruments. Institutional partners that pass verification can mint and redeem USDrf directly with RealFi Reserve at a nominal $1 per token, subject to fees, queues and limits, while retail holders generally must use supported decentralized exchanges. Cardano's stablecoin supply is nearing $70 million even as total value locked in its DeFi applications has fallen more than 50% to about $67 million from roughly $150 million in May. RealFi's product gives that dollar liquidity another potential use, but its credit performance, reserve disclosures, DEX liquidity and institutional redemption process remain key tests. sUSDrf carries junior loss exposure, a seven-day cooldown and no guaranteed one-for-one conversion, while RealFi excludes users in several jurisdictions and does not offer retail holders an insured deposit or guaranteed dollar exit.
