Mega MGC Coffee has surpassed 4,500 stores nationwide in South Korea, marking rapid expansion since the low-cost coffee brand opened its first outlet in Seoul's Hongdae district in 2015. The chain reached 1,000 stores within five years and passed 4,000 within a decade. As of last month, it operated approximately 4,400 active stores. Alongside expansion, the company said it is pursuing qualitative growth in its franchise business by increasing sales per store while keeping closures low. Franchise disclosure documents filed with the Fair Trade Commission, South Korea's antitrust regulator, showed sales per store last year were about 18% higher than three years earlier, while the closure rate remained in the 1% range. Mega MGC Coffee is introducing seasonal drinks, desserts, and menus and content developed with major intellectual property brands to attract younger customers and create additional revenue opportunities for franchisees. The company said sustainable franchisee profitability will remain its top priority, supported by greater marketing and research-and-development investment.
