The National Assembly’s Environment and Labor Committee is discussing whether to summon IICOMBINED Chief Executive Kim Han-kook as a witness at this month’s parliamentary audit. A Ministry of Employment and Labor inspection found that the operator of eyewear brand Gentle Monster failed to pay 430 million won in night, holiday and other wages to 464 employees and identified 115 overtime-rule violations. Investigators also found alleged misuse of the discretionary working-hours system, including work beyond agreed hours without additional allowances, and overtime orders involving workers less than a year past childbirth. Back-payments remain unresolved mainly for former employees, while some current and former designers said retroactive payments were only a few thousand to tens of thousands of won. The committee is also reviewing whether affected workers received the money owed and how the company calculated payments.
