Marex launched a cash-settled OTC rolling spot crypto product on October 1 for institutional clients, including hedge funds, asset managers and crypto-native institutions. The derivative allows long or short exposure to crypto prices without direct ownership of the underlying assets, reducing the need for wallet infrastructure, private-key controls, custody arrangements, settlement procedures and related internal policies. Marex says the product combines crypto-native market economics with its existing credit, margin and execution infrastructure. The firm is also introducing Neon Crypto, a digital-assets application within its institutional Neon trading platform, offering streaming market depth, execution, real-time margin oversight and portfolio management. The launch comes as professional crypto trading becomes more varied: Wintermute reported that institutions accounted for 72% of its spot OTC volume in the first half of 2026, while a $67 million Ether short was tracked on Hyperliquid. Marex's product adds another institutional route alongside ETFs, options, perpetual-style derivatives, structured OTC products, tokenized securities and direct onchain venues. A SEC (U.S. securities regulator)-CFTC (U.S. derivatives regulator) review of portfolio margining also highlights the importance of integrating crypto exposure with institutional capital and risk systems.
