El Al canceled flights scheduled to bring Israelis home from Dubai after the United Arab Emirates withdrew landing permits for Israeli carriers. The airline said it remains ready to operate charter flights once official approval is granted. Flights scheduled for next Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday remain listed but are fully booked. The cancellations came as Israeli carriers prepared to repatriate stranded Israelis after flydubai suspended service following an incident Wednesday in which its co-pilot stabbed the captain and tried to crash the aircraft before passengers and crew restrained him. The plane made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, while Emirati authorities ordered an investigation into the incident's circumstances and motives. Flydubai urged against speculation. The reasons for the withdrawn permits were not explained, and Emirati authorities had not immediately issued clarification. Air travel between Israel and the UAE has also been disrupted in recent months by Israeli attacks on Iran. The countries established diplomatic relations in 2020 under a US-brokered normalization agreement.
