Poland’s fuel prices could fall by approximately 1.2 to 1.3 zloty per liter as early as this weekend after President Karol Nawrocki signed the Act on Windfall Profits Tax on Fuel Companies on Thursday evening. The reduction also reflects the latest iteration of the government’s CPN program. Fuel prices rose 36.1% year-on-year and 9.2% month-on-month in September, pushing headline inflation to 4.0% from 3.4% in August and above the National Bank of Poland’s 3.5% target ceiling. Analysts estimate the fuel-price measures could lower inflation by 0.6 to 0.7 percentage points, bringing it to about 3.6% to 3.7% in October and keeping it in that range through year-end. The NBP held its main rate at 3.75% in September, and most analysts expect no change at its next decision, although markets are nearly evenly split on a rate increase over the following four meetings. ING economists now project rate hikes only in the first quarter of 2027.
