South Korea’s AI ETF market fragments into narrower chip themes

  • South Korean asset managers launched increasingly specialized AI semiconductor ETFs in September.
  • September launches targeted NAND, HBM, memory equipment, and global storage-device makers.
  • DRAM and U.S. CPU-focused ETFs are close to listing, while KB plans another active fund.

South Korea’s exchange-traded fund market is splitting the artificial intelligence theme into increasingly narrow investment products, particularly across the semiconductor industry. September saw launches focused on NAND memory, high-bandwidth memory (HBM), memory materials and equipment, and global storage makers. KB Asset Management’s RISE Global AI NAND Memory Semiconductor targets the global NAND value chain, while Hanwha Asset Management’s PLUS Korea HBM Semiconductor focuses on Samsung Electronics, SK hynix and HBM-related suppliers. KODEX U.S. AI Memory TOP2 Plus concentrates on Micron, SanDisk, Seagate and Western Digital. Further products targeting DRAM and U.S. CPU makers are close to listing, while KB plans another actively managed ETF for chip materials, parts and equipment. Thematic expansion is also moving beyond semiconductors into physical AI (AI systems operating in the physical world), agentic AI, robot components, printed circuit boards, foundry services and 800-volt direct-current power infrastructure. An asset management industry official said products are being designed more precisely as investors focus on areas with stronger growth potential.
