Authors of Ethereum's EIP-8363 proposal withdrew it from the upcoming Hegota upgrade on October 1, 2026, following more than 200 forum comments and criticism from developers, solo stakers and DeFi protocols. The proposal would have phased in a rising burn of validator rewards over 18 months, reaching a 100% burn at roughly 60.25 million ETH staked. Its removal leaves Ethereum's existing monetary rules unchanged for now. The authors said the issue's significance and the volume of community concerns warranted a dedicated governance process rather than inclusion in Hegota. Issuance forums will be held between Devcon in November and EthCC in April to examine the mechanism before any potential implementation. ETH was trading near $2,730, up less than 1% over 24 hours, with market attention focused on the $2,800-$2,900 resistance area, macroeconomic data, rate expectations and ETF flows.
