Anthropic warned in its IPO prospectus that government perceptions of the company and its technology could affect commercial customers, partners and other business relationships, extending beyond its direct government contracts. The company said government agency contracts account for less than 1% of annual revenue, but cautioned that advanced AI could pose "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity" as it prepares for an IPO that could value its capacity to profit from the technology at $2 trillion. Anthropic cited a February order by US President Donald Trump directing federal agencies to stop using its models and the US Department of Defense designating the company a supply-chain risk to national security. In June, the US Department of Commerce imposed worldwide export restrictions on Anthropic's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models, leading the company to disable them for all customers before the restrictions were lifted and the models redeployed. Anthropic said similar actions could cause revenue losses, business disruptions, reputational harm and negative perceptions among stakeholders. The disclosure comes as concern grows over AI safety, after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for slower development and met US President Donald Trump amid debate over regulation. The Federal Trade Commission is conducting an industrywide probe of AI firms including Anthropic.
