Oracle announced on October 2 that it plans to purchase power from Wisconsin’s Point Beach Nuclear Plant, with the electricity supplying its data center campus in Port Washington. The company said the arrangement would relieve more than 1 million utility customers of roughly $300 million in fuel costs associated with the state’s most expensive power supply. Oracle operates more than 50 data centers across 28 countries and is investing tens of billions of dollars in artificial intelligence infrastructure, with $95 billion in capital expenditures forecast for this year. Its shares were up 2% shortly before 12 p.m. EDT, though they remained down more than 27% since the start of the year and below their September 2025 record highs. We Energies sold the plant to NextEra Energy in 2007 but retained a power purchase agreement through 2033. The contract’s per-megawatt-hour cost roughly doubled between 2009 and 2027, with annual increases of 6% to 8% expected through expiration. We Energies has said the agreement accounts for about 20% of its proposed $176 million electric rate increase for 2027.
