Vistra Corp. shares pared losses Friday after reports that the U.S. government was preparing approximately $4.2 billion in financing to help increase generation from the company's nuclear fleet. The stock fell to an intraday low of $135.79 before recovering to about $139.20, down roughly 0.3% for the session, after trading near $137 before the report. Energy Secretary Chris Wright is expected to announce the financing Monday during a visit to a Vistra nuclear facility along Lake Erie in Ohio. The financing would support uprates at at least three of Vistra's four nuclear power stations. Reports have described the program as covering two facilities in Ohio and another in Pennsylvania, although potential capacity additions have not been disclosed. Vistra operates six reactors with combined capacity exceeding 6.5 gigawatts, enough to supply roughly 3.25 million homes. The initiative comes as U.S. electricity demand accelerates because of artificial-intelligence data centers, broader electrification and cryptocurrency mining, while the Trump administration pursues expanded nuclear capacity.
