TJ Maxx had a larger store footprint at the start of the second half of The TJX Company’s fiscal 2027 than at the beginning of the year, despite three prominent 2026 closures in Maryland and Massachusetts. The retailer opened 11 net new TJ Maxx stores during the first half of fiscal 2027, which ended August 1, 2026, and added five locations in August in Arkansas, Montana, Ohio, Oregon and Virginia. The company said it has no additional upcoming closures beyond the three already reported and expects to keep expanding. The TJX Company had 1,359 TJ Maxx stores as of August 1, five more than at the beginning of the quarter. Across TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Homesense and Sierra, it operates more than 5,300 stores in 10 countries. The company says it plans to accelerate store openings to 4% starting next year and believes its global store base can eventually reach 7,500 locations in its existing banners and countries.
