The Detroit Pistons officially announced a contract extension for All-NBA center Jalen Duren on Saturday, while withholding financial terms. ESPN and The Athletic had previously reported that the 22-year-old agreed to a five-year, $200 million contract after entering restricted free agency. The reported agreement removed a weight clause included in an earlier version of the offer. Duren was a first-time All-Star and third-team All-NBA selection after averaging a career-high 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds during the regular season, helping Detroit finish with the Eastern Conference’s best record at 60-22. His production declined to 10.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per playoff game as the Pistons lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in seven games in the Eastern Conference semifinals. President of basketball operations Trajan Langdon said Duren remains a core part of Detroit’s plans, while coach J.B. Bickerstaff said he had not sensed bitterness from the center toward the team during a Friday meeting. Drafted 13th overall in 2022, Duren has spent his entire four-year career with Detroit and owns career averages of 13.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
