Korean retail investors buying overseas stocks shifted in September toward SGOV, an ultra-short-term U.S. Treasury ETF, and SCHD, a dividend ETF, as U.S. long-term Treasury yields surged and bond-market volatility increased. SGOV drew $290.46 million in net purchases, up 72.8% from August and rising from ninth to first place, while SCHD attracted $230.97 million, up 18.2% and moving from sixth to second. Alphabet and the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF also ranked among the top purchases, while SOXS, a high-risk inverse leveraged ETF, placed fifth. The mix suggests investors combined relatively lower-volatility holdings with leveraged or inverse products, a barbell investment strategy, rather than fully abandoning risky assets.
