Samsung Electronics will begin full-scale construction this month on the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex, a project backed by approximately 360 trillion won, or about $268.2 billion, in investment. The company previously outlined plans for three liquefied natural gas cogeneration facilities, extensive treated-wastewater reuse and the participation of about 70 suppliers and fabless chip design firms. The cluster is projected to create about 1.6 million jobs, while Samsung is working with the central government and local authorities to move up the start of operations at its first Yongin fab to October 2029 from the second half of 2030.
